Going to the birds... PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ed Hathaway

owl_tmb.jpgIn past articles I've talked about the different feathered wildlife that we have encountered here at the Brown Bark Plantation. There have been stories of hawks, hummingbirds and blue birds that up until recently were not part of the landscape. We can now add another species to our ever going list of audubon scenery...we have achieved an owl family. The one pictured here is a very young chap and Ruthie was brave enough to get quite close to for a quick snap. We have had overhead sightings of owls recently but nothing this up-close and personal. It hung around the front holly bush for several days to test out its flying ability and then off it went. Its kind of cool seeing birds of pray taking up resident at the ol' plantation…helps keep the creepy-crawley critters on their toes!
