The other day Scott (son) sent me an email about a new music download site that recently went on-line called MP3Panda . Now, for years I’ve been preaching that downloadable music was way too expensive when you take into account all that goes into providing this service. For the most part setting up a downloadable website is one of the cheapest forms of file sharing you can design and implement. The server rack space and bandwidth required for this service is dropping faster then the stock market. In the long run when you download music or movies/videos… you become the manufacturer and distribution arm of this business, not the record companies! It is your computer equipment, internet provider and time that make up a large part of this process. Having to spend a dollar a song just does not make much sense to me. Here is my point…
Your average CD costs around $12.00 at major discount retail stores. Generally there are 12 songs on a CD… do the math! Buying a complete CD on the major download services just never added up for me. I’ve always said that when they sell download music for 25 cents a song then it starts making sense. But up until recently, this $1.00 a song was the industry standard model that services loved. Why, PROFITS! It only costs them pennies per song in royalties to the recording companies and artists and nothing to manufacture the final product. Most of the major record companies even store their digital music library on their own servers and submit links to the download companies. This cuts the actual delivery costs even further.
If you take all of the above into account, MP3Panda has taken a much different approach. With their service you pre-buy a ‘membership’ within three categories. This pre-buy amount becomes your ‘bank’ and as you download songs, your ‘bank’ is reduced by the amount you spend. Now… here is the best part. An entire CD (album for us old vinyl folk) can be purchased for as little as $1.98 or 20 cents for just an individual song… now do the math! The digital quality is excellent and the download time is very, very fast. Their existing library of available songs or CDs is quite extensive including recent releases to oldies from all music categories you can think of.
I’m currently taking this service out for an initial $29.95 test drive and so far I am most impressed. I’ve purchased a few complete CDs that I had bootleg copies of and got them onto my iPod as replacements. With MP3Panda , my music library will become 100% legal in a very short amount of time and finally the respective recording studios and artists will receive their proper royalties for their creativity and hard work.

In today's mail came one of many holiday catalogs wanting our gift giving money but the one from Pier 1 really caught out eyes. At first glance it was heading straight to the recycle bin but after a closer examination of the cover, something very strange fell over us. On the cover (click onto the picture to see the full size view) was a picture of a dog inside the car that looked just like our Chloe and the lady handing out the car window has a striking likeness of Ruth. The cu-de-graw was the car... Ruth owned a VW Bug while in college. Can you say Twilight Zone? How weird is this and how very odd for Pier 1 to select Ruth, Chloe and daCar to sport their holiday catalog.

Last night we had dinner reservations complements of Tori (Uncle Frank's middle child). Now unlike most dinner reservations, 12 started this festive occasion however only 4 remand standing at the end (it is so good being top of the food chain). Add a few french fries, cold slaw, wine and Christmas music in the background, a lobster pre-Thanksgiving dinner has to become a new family tradition. A very special thank you Tori... may all your children's dreams come true.

Going to the airport during Thanksgiving time is always an adventure. Between flight delays, TSA screening lines, lost IDs and a whole host of people on the move... finding a safe corner to wait for Ma's plane to find Greensboro was an adventure. Having an internet phone helped pass the time going from one web site to the other. Not for any reason other then I could (a shout-out to Allegiant Air for providing a slice of free WiFi)! After our long lasting hugs and greetings Ma needed to find the W.C. and quickly. As we made our way through PTI seeking relief, Ma found her and Lynn's old store, The Front Porch. Right there for the whole world to see was The Front Porch smack in the middle of Greensboro's Airport. Boy, I sure hope 'Soc' the Bud Man can find the new location!
